The late model Karmann Ghia has bumpers that have been described as snow plows. With the crash safety rules established in the United States, VW had to put more substantial bumpers on their car. This car has what might be the original bumpers…they have a few dings, some chrome flaking off and the factory black trim strip along the center line of the bumper has broken down and in most areas flaked off. I was able to source some vinyl tape to replace this highlight and decided I might consider colors other than black. What came to mind was yellow to match the body or brown to match the wheels and interior.

I decided I like the look of the brown trim…the yellow was a bit too bold. These bumper are presentable but when you get closer you can see the flaws. Eventually, I plan to purchase some polished stainless steel bumpers…this will finish the exterior upgrades of the car.
