I decided a backup camera would be a good idea. I decided on a system that has a powered camera and a powered monitor which are connected wirelessly. The camera and transmitter are powered off the wire that powers the backup lights. The monitor and receiver are powered off the wire that feeds power to the rear heater switch. The monitor is in standby mode until it receives a signal from the camera…which comes on when the transmission shifted into reverse.
I mounted the camera on the bumper beside the license plate. The transmitter is mounted on a bracket that is behind the right side taillight housing.
The monitor is mounted below the radio. The receiver is mounted on the cross member that runs below the front heater housing.
So far, the system has worked flawlessly. Having the camera and monitor hardwired eliminates the need to deal with batteries and the wireless system work well.
Now I will be able to see what I am running over when backing into a camp site!
