The tires on the Karmann Ghia were on the car when I purchased it. The tires had a lot of tread left but the tires aged out a long time ago. Since I have been driving the car more I decided it was probably a good idea to put new tires on the car.

Once I made the choice to get new tires it was easy to decide I wanted get new wheels. I have spent a lot of time looking at Karmann Ghia pictures to decide on what wheels I would prefer. I settled on polished aluminum 8 spoke wheels. I ended up sourcing the wheels from California Import Parts.

Getting the wheels fitted to the car was not without issue. The first problem was the front wheels ended up rubbing against the brake calipers.  A 1/4 inch spacer solved that problem. The next issue was the recommended lug bolt were just a bit long in the rear with the bolts rubbing against the brake parts inside the drum. Shorter lug bolts and that issue was solved. I was concerned that the wider rim might create some conflicts but there was plenty of space for the wider wheels.

and tires.

I am happy with the end result…
